Citizenship

Literacy Source helps low-income immigrants become US citizens. We offer the following services:

  • free citizenship classes and one-to-one tutoring

  • practice interviews with trained volunteers

  • citizenship application and fee waiver assistance for eligible adults (low income individuals residing in the City of Seattle, residents of the Seattle Housing Authority, and/or individuals receiving public assistance in Washington state)

  • referrals for legal advice

  • community engagement opportunities

Classes are taught in English and held twice a week. Trained instructors will teach you about U.S. history and civics, interviewing skills, and civic engagement. You will also study the reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills that you need to pass the citizenship test.

For more information about who is eligible to apply for U. S. citizenship, visit the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Website.

To learn more about our citizenship program, call 206-782-2050 or email citizenship@literacysource.org.

You must have your Lawful Permanent Resident card (LPR or green card) and be planning to apply for citizenship to receive citizenship services at Literacy Source. It is our priority to provide citizenship assistance to low-income adults who live in the city of Seattle.

Let staff know if you have already applied for citizenship and if you have a citizenship test coming up soon!
